24" D009 D176 bars 81DL 84DL
« on: March 15, 2016, 01:41:10 pm »
Has anyone compared a echo 24" D176 81DL bar to a D009 24" 84DL bar in 3/8 050. Talking total length of the bars?

Why I ask I put a D009 24" 84DL on a echo (yes I know the slot on D009 is a tad wider then D176) with 84DL chain and I was at the end of the echo tenstioner adjustment.
I am thinking I can remove 2 or 3 drive links and have full adjustments.

Just wondering if I could get away with going to 81DL just like the 24" oem echo bars?

I would check this myself. But have sold and shipped all my 24" echo bars and 81dl chains off already.

Anyone got both bars 24" D176 and D009 to check total length measurements?

Only have the 009 in 24.   I was thinking it may not be the total length of the bar 176 bar.   The adjustment holes on an 009 seam to be a tad bit farther towards the tip than the 176.  I think that the overall average of a 176 is a wider , top to bottom,  over the length.  Tail on a 176 is wider also.  All 3 of those factors might be stretching the adjustment on the echo.

Thanks. Just wish I had a bar here in 24" to compare them.  I was going to cut 2 DL's out and go 82 with the D009. But was wondering if I could get away with 81DL.
Hate having to rebreak one after putting together after cutting it first time.

Don't take too many links out at a time, I had an old Mac. with a hopelessly long chain & I pulled three dl out of it and had to put one back.

Another idea.  3 links should be  2 1/4 inches total out of the chain-  drivers, ties and cutters.  If you are at full adjustment out, I figure that it will pull the bar in 1/2 that - 1 1/8".  I'm not at home to do an exact measurement. Guesstimate - an adjuster has at least 2 inches of travel. So there's a little room to work with.   If it was me I would just do it. Only my thoughts.

Actually, I do have both - I think.  I have a 24" Oregon PowerMatch D174 81DL bar I got for my McCinderblock SE3420.  Then I have the bar that came with my Chinese G621 clone, which should have been a D176 mount but was not.  Near as I can tell it's a D009, and it flopped all around on the studs.  However, the oiler and adjuster holes worked.

The one bar is simply an inch longer than the other, so I refer to the 81DL bar as a 24" and the 84DL bar as 25".  I run them both on the clone.  I have not had issues with being at the end of the adjuster range that I recall, but I will look at it again (EDIT: you can see in the attached picture where it runs).

I made my own bar adapter, which is not perfect but it works.  I save those thin SS strips from old wiper blades and have made many tools out of them.  Here I heated the end and bent it around an old bolt, making an adapter.  The metal was just a bit too thick so I had to grind it to fit, but I've used it quite a bit now.

You just gave me a reason to tear down some old wiper blades for future use.  Thanks for info too.

The D009 bar on a echo 702 is at the end of tensioner with 84dl chain.

They must just have the bar studs positioned differently relative to the crank.  Of course, who really knows what the heck this Chinese bar pattern is?!

That will of course explain some difference, but 3 dl is quite a bit. Btw, it is the adjuster pin vs. the crank that really matters, not the studs.
