.325 pixel?
« on: November 25, 2015, 01:24:05 pm »
A noob question but what is .325 Pixel? I have a 346XP that I run Stihl chain on (3627x72 325/.050). I bought a Husky file guide for my 3/8 chain I run on my 372XP (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0035AKJN0?keywords=husqvarna%20chainsaw%20filing%20kit&qid=1448475547&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1) but the only one I found for the .325 pitch is this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0035AKJLC?keywords=husqvarna%20chainsaw%20filing%20kit&qid=1448475547&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2 will that work with my Stihl chain? What is the Pixel designation for?

Thanks in advance!

I dont do pixel myself so dont know much.  I did show a guy with 50cc 346 difference in cut speed between his pixel and 3/8. The 346 50cc went to 3/8.
I would run regular 325 over pixel IMO.

Pixel  IMO is for under powered saws needing thinner kerf.  JMO

Some info when I was trying to learn on these narrow kerf chains  http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/chain/is-there-a-good-narrow-kerf-standard-mount-bar-for-stihl/

With Husqvarnas a narrow kerf bar has a "NK" stamped in the part number area.

Typical narrow kerf saws are home owner occasional use types in the 30-40cc range

A 346XP would not have a NK chain setup from the factory. But one can be installed on a 346XP.

A 440 or 435 home owner saw would be likely to have a narrow kerf bar and chain

I would like to add that there are .325 chains that have real small cutters and other .325's like a Stihl RM or RS type have cutters almost as big as standard full size 3/8" chains.

In Oregon chain the 20LPX is a large cutter .325 chisel chain. BPX is the semi chisel version.

In Oregon a 95VP chain would be .325 pitch narrow kerf chain but has a .050" gauge.

'Pixel' is just Husqvarna's term for narrow kerf (NK) chain. Oregon sometimes refers to this as 'Micro-Lite'. Carlton (also branded as 'WoodlandPro' at Bailey's) also makes it. STIHL does not (currently) offer any.

NK chains should be run on NK bars. Available in 3/8 low profile and .325 pitches.

*Husqvarna uses different file guides for their .325 and.325 NK chains*.  The roller guides do not work on all chains, or may need to be modified to fit others.

Most of the time saws intended from the factory for narrow kerf bar and chains cannot use regular bars and chains as the edge of the cutters will catch on the chain plates under the cover.

The roller guides were confusing for me at first.  Someone gave me one for '.325 chain' and I did not understand why it would not fit mine (.325 narrow kerf), or the .325, .063 gauge STIHL chains I had.  The 'flat' style file guides worked with any chain that used that diameter file.

Over time I learned that there are at least 5 different sizes/models, and that they don't physically fit over some chains, due to the width of the tie straps, some low kickback bumpers, etc.  A lot of guys really like them for those chains that they do fit.

My chain is not narrow kerf. It's just .325. Does anyone know which roller guide I need then? Part number or a link?
Thanks!
