From my experience if I have a solid bar that has been used enough to gain from the rails being close up a little, these bars have a more prominent problem with the rails being worn out near the replaceable tip. I've considered shipping bars in this condition to SRCARR and he can weld them up and re-groove them for a lot less trouble than devising something myself to grind out the welded up groove.

I just don't have enough bad bars to warrant all these tools to repair a bar/year. 
We should share what we know... someone may learn...
