Chain 2 was round filed back just as the work chain. I removed some of the tiestrap to save the file and shaped the depth gauges with a dremel. Then hit the rivets with a sanddisc on an angle grinder. Then squared free hand, tried to stone it, and set the gauges the same. It was faster than my work chain but slower than the race one I sent in my testing.

jmester. Thanks a million i did something diffrent with the raker also i used my round file and tunneled under it , Hard to explain it would b easier to see a pic.
On my 450p i took a old file and a peice of sand paper and chucked the file in a drill and smoothed it out some running the sand paper up and down it , then i filed the chain with my oregon bar mounted guide, and used valve lapping compound on it and OMG it was a monster. It was crazy shinny and cut so smooooooth. Also on that chain i clean the gullets out like i did on the work chain i sent in. Its fast i have cut over 14 trees down and cut up with that 450p chain and haven't even touched with a file since the valve compound and cleaning the gullets.

That is interesting how you used the valve lapping compound on a dull file to polish the chain.   Pretty slick.

Thank you. I must have spent hours trying to figure out a way to Shine it up like using a fine stone on a knife. Then at work i was lapping some valves in a cyl, and bam it hit me. lol..

That is a very nice looking cutter.

The race chain I sent in was an afterthought. While doing the first 2 I was reading a lot about squarefiling and race chains. And Matt or Mike had said something about sacrificing cutter height vs chip clearing so I thought why not play? Could only get my hands on some ps3 but why not. I ground the saftey to a hump and trimmed the tiestraps. Then cleared the gullets and took the file to it with a stupid angle. The reasult was this.

I then shined it up, clipped it, and tried again to stone. Ran them and kept chain 2 at home.

Finished pic.
