Chain Build Off 2020
« on: April 02, 2020, 08:59:26 am »
Ethan is having a chain build off here local.  I forgot about this place and letting folks know. He posted back on the CRG back in March.  Sorry about that.

But I recalled Roger did some nice chain. So ask Ethan if I should post here too since I know you dont do FB.

I am hosting a chain build off, anyone is welcome.

Chains will be 60dl 3/8 .050 ran on a woods ported 6100, in aspen (subject to change, will confirm tomorrow). Wood will be an 8x8, there are no rules, just send a chain and see how you do! Saw will be ran by a third party, who is not entering a chain, so there will be no bias. All for fun!  7T rim

3 cuts, slowest removed, remaining two averaged.

I must have the chains by April 23, they will be tested the 24th.

Include $8 to have chain shipped back.

Anything goes. No restrictions.

Let me think about it.   Sounds like fun during  this virus crap.    I would need to order a new chain too.

You want me to check if I have a used 60dl in oregon for ya?   I know I have new loops of stihl RS but they are little heavier being they are 050 but 063 at top of drive links. Oregon 050 is 058 at tops.

The race portion of the gtg is up in the air now.  We got put on stay at home till May 1st.

Would think Ethan and Shawn could still do the chain testing.

I have been working on my chain today and made some pretty good progress.    I am using some different techniques this time to accomplish the same task that was faster.    Hopefully a couple more days of work and a few test cuts and it will be ready to ship.

Finished of the chain today.   Made a couple of test cuts and it is nice and smooth in the cut.      So we will see how it does.

I ran my test cuts in cottonwood so it should be similar to Poplar.
