Chain sharpening for icy cutting
« on: February 05, 2014, 06:59:36 am »
As I typically do my best for not being in crappy weather, and certainly I try to stay out of the ice. My new job has brought me to the inclement weather cutting....worked a pretty good ice storm yesterday.

Noticed my typical sharpening not lasting for nothin'....

Any pointers for a sharpening routine for cutting ice covered(3/4" and better) trees and branches?  Resharpening during cutting not really something the general public wants to see you doing while they are in a mad rush for milk and bread.

Semi chisel is your friend for that kind of stuff.

I run a more blunt top plate angle when cutting frozen hard wood. 25 degrees with a +10 degree file angle helps me.
