Chainsaw Repair

This is a follow up on the Sears chain grinder at cut4fun's shop.

He and I saw the number "306" as the part number and assumed it to be a Foley-Belsaw 306. Actually, the number 306 is Sear's supplier code for Foley Belsaw. So that ends the number identification? At this point, it is only a Sears sawchain sharpener made by Foley-Belsaw.

This grinder is more sophisticated than the entry level Foley-Belsaw "Chain Mate" which has the grinding wheel mounted on the motor armature shaft yet is made a little cheaper than the popular Foley-Belsaw 308 in that it has Oilite bushings for the arbor and the vice has no foot operated lock lever like the 308. 2L size V-belts are available from many sources as are the grinding wheels

It would make a nice home shop grinder for the firewood cutter though. The parts are sturdy and simple. Even the flange bushings for the arbor are hardware store items. There are no castings on this grinder.

I would take this grinder in a NY minute over any of the Chinese offerings you typically see.

However it will not do the 10 degree droop on the top cutter that many people do not bother with anyway.
