Good Deal on Basic Chaps
« on: March 18, 2014, 02:02:08 pm »

Forester Chaps $26.70 This Week

Saw the Forester chaps on sale/clearance for $30 at a local Menard's (less 11% rebate this week).

Cheap insurance. Good deal on a pair of basic, UL approved chaps for a back up pair, cutting partner, etc.

If I did not have two pair already I would get one of those.

What is the chain threshold speed?

What is the chain threshold speed?

Is that something that is listed with the packaging.    Do all Chaps have that rating listed somewhere.

It should be on a tag. Here compensation requires a minimum of 3000 ft/min. Most pros wear the 3600 fpm version. The cheap Stihl chaps are 2600 fpm, better than nothing but I would want more. My extremities are important to me.

It should be on a tag.

I have 3 pairs of chaps/protective pants - Husqvarna and Jonsered.  Could not find that information on any of them, only type of fabrics, UL/ASTM listing info, and washing instructions.

Here is a link to the Company's website: http://foresterchainsawparts.com/Forester-Apron-Style-Chainsaw-Chaps-p46.html

YouTube demo (their link may not work):

I am not saying that these are the best or most protective chaps, and have not used them personally.  Just that it is a good price on some basic protection that meets UL listing requirements, and an opportunity for those who maybe have been going without due to cost concerns. (EDIT - if they were being sold for their full list price of $67, these are probably not the first brand I would be looking at).

Most companies (STIHL, Husqvarna, Labonville, etc.) sell chaps with different levels of protection for larger saws or more demanding use.  If these are too heavy or bulky, they may not be worn for more casual use.  I have a pair of the lighter weight Husqvarnas, and a pair of their wrap-around chaps so that I don't 'have an excuse'.

Looks like they are replacing them with another version of Forester chaps in different packaging, back at the $54 price.
