Your welcome. Lot's of little tips can be had but to be honest I think I forgot more then what I know from all these years. I took about a 20 break from racing which didn't help.

I haven't talked to Gary Walrath for about 5 or 6 years now ,I should get in touch with him again....the man was a wealth of information,  he's 82 years old now.

Here's his old website from years back when he made his first website. Make sure to read all 6 pages, great read. Speaking of records Dennis Cahoon claims he beat Garys speed record in 27" wood....well the truth is Cahoon was cutting pine in California, Gary was cutting tough northern Douglas fir.

I was very fortunate to meet Mr Garry Walrath and his daughter plus Mr Kent huntington both times they raced at our National Cooma classic's (early 90's). The year Gary made that record I was 30 feet away from the truck watching, Mr Holis Vaukman (not spelt right I know) plus Mr John Stadler were there also.
Those were the days, that Iron Horse was something to see for sure. I'm sure that log was a 30inch ponderosa pine.

The following year after Garry retired Mr Tom Monahan (again not spelt right) ran the iron Horse with Mr Kent Huntington against Mr Stadler running his 250 bike saw.

Square filing for work and racing, been doing that since the mid 80's and still learning.

I was hoping to see some videos but did not see any.   Still pretty interesting though.

Neil, I have no videos and can't even find YouTube uploads either of the Iron Horse. Probably lots of old VCR and 8mm around though. All I had used back in the day was a 35mm Canon.
If you have something we'd love to see them. BTW do you know what ever happened to the Iron Horse?
I should have asked Gary when I last talked to him.

Ok, I will have a look and see what I can find. I may be wrong but thought the iron horse was owned by Oregon, built by Garry Walrath and Kent Huntington.
Tom Monagan (??) ran it last time I saw it run in the late 90's, I seem to remember he worked for Oregon as well.
Tom raced Dave Stadler (yz250) that year in the same size wood, (30inch ponderosa pine), there wasn't much in it. Tom droped the iron horse off the top of the log while Dave done a cold start off the ground, was very impressive.

Neil, you may very well have the correct info on the Iron Horse. Like I said myself being away from the sport for over 20 yrs a lot has happened in that time.
Gary Walrath and Steve Ingalls (another Oregon engineer) built the first hotsaw called the Pope. Kent Huntington who was another Oregon engineer may very well have been involved. Kent has helped invent different product for Oregon such as the bar with the built in chain tensioner, Vanguard chain, Oregon lite aluminum insert bars, sevral bench grinders etc.
Tom Monaghan I believe was involed with Oregon's ICS concrete chain division.
I've  heard of Dave Stadler a competitor here in North America and Australia / N.Z.

My apologies, yes I checked back through my race diaries from the 90's, it was David and not John Stadler, too long ago now and I'm forgetting stuff.
He built a few hot saws for out here, anyway I cut off a piece from a vid. Sorry about the quality but its the best I could do. I found some footage but will take time to cut out.
