read that just a few weeks ago, my takeaway, a $2000 for a 20 yr old silvey isnt needed to make a fast chain. $900 for a new simington with patience and skill can get you jsut as good of chain.

Then a guy knowing how to hand file with a $9 file can do the same or better too.

I seen some things on the cutter profiles I learned not to like in square filing.

Looking at some of the ones shown blew my mind. They even said later the oregon guys cleaned up the gullets and it improved some of the chains.

It's good to see Sam Madsen on the right in the first pic next to the door.
I always recognize that big smile.

I didn't see any 20" wood in the pics but I agree with Cut leaving those big ledges in the gullet sure makes me wonder .

It was an interesting read. I wondered if the contestants thought they weren't allowed to clear the gullet? They sure liked to beak. I suppose they can get away with it in the softwood.

Beak is fast and takes a touch more power to pull. I'd like to see the chains myself.

Thanks for sharing. Very good read. I can certainly agree with getting older and seeing that all important corner. Last chain I sent to Mike had quite a few beaks I never even saw. He touched them up and retested with substantially better results. Since then I use these and now I'm getting better results...

I know it’s apples and oranges, but Would have been interesting to see how the New husky “X cut” would have compared... Have any of you fellas had a chance to get your hands on any of this new husky chain and tested yet?
