I was making a loop of oregon 33 .325 050 today and need to make a few more by Monday.  This chain used 5/32 files right. Pretty sure yes. 3/16" file just didnt set right IMO to use.

When I run out of the oregon LG33  roll I was going to 20LPX  (does the lpx use bigger 3/16 file?).    Maybe try carlton K1L .325 (file size ?) and I know I like the stihl 23RS  3/16 file size.

Never mind thought so.  FILE SIZE: On these chains you may use either a 4.5mm or a 5/32” round file and file guide.

Hello Joyce.  Always glad to see you posting.
-Aaron

For older saws:
Tune the H side so that it 4-strokes (burbles) at WOT unloaded and just cleans up when under load.
When you lift cutting load, the saw should immediately revert to 4-stroking.  Fine tune the transition point for the wood you're cutting.

I filed a 78DL loop of oregon 33 for the poulan pro 295 the same way I did a round filed 33LG for the chain build off. Only thing I lowered the rakers on it more.
Using the 3/16 file instead of the 5/32 file the 33LG used.

Hope to hear feedback from owner in future on how it worked.

Didn't read the book on 33lg chain always filed w/3/16".  Did think it was odd that it was a little hard to get file in groove LOL.  Cut good w/no problems.  Now I know why.

The correct file size for the 33/34/35 Oregon chains are 11/64" (nominally 4.5mm, but really 4.4mm). Stihl Topic (23/25/26 TS or TM) chains in .325 take the same size. The chains have low profile cutters, but a regular size chassis.

There used to be similar chain in 3/8" as well (Oregon 76 and 77 LG, Stihl 33/35/36 TS and TM), that take a 3/16" file.

20/21/22 LP/LPX take a 3/16" file.
