I just mailed (5) 70-72 DL chains (3/8", .050) in a small flat rate box - weighed in a just under 4 pounds.  Some chains 'fold' tighter than others, depending on cutter shape and size.  I know that it would not apply to most square ground chains, but chains with the low-kickback bumpers take up more space (another reason to hate them?).

A few years back an on-line friend mailed me 33 pounds of used chains in a large flat rate box.  The mailman actually stopped to congratulate me - he wasn't upset; a younger guy, thought it was cool that someone was 'really getting their money's worth!'
