Chainsaw Repair

Interesting .I noticed the ad for bar guards with advertising I have several myself .Some how I have never started a saw up and forgotten to remove those prior .Some of the others,plastic I have .They don't do so well with a running chain inside of them .

I have a beautiful Ohio made 11T spur on my Yamaha bikesaw. It's 33 years old and still not a chain wear mark on it.

I'll post more tomorrow guys, just finished a 12 hour day taking out trees between 2 cabins.

Some development history here on rim sprockets. From what I can find Oregon didn't introduce the Powermate rim sprocket until 1967-68.
McCulloch sold  a rim as far back as 1964 but it was solid to the drum. But in 1964 Armstrong introduced a floating spline drum rim sprocket.

So I'm thinking Armstrong was supplying McCullough the rims since they started in the sprocket business in 1959.
But nothing on information about Armstrong after Oregon introduced the PowerMate rim a few years later.

Oregon was know to have been involved in many patent wars but I'm thinking they may have just bought Armstrong out.

I have an NOS Armstrong rim drive drum with the tiger on the box.  Need to remember to snap a pic...

Well guys I was up till 4 in the morning last night researching.
I came up with how to get a Stihl Picco 7 pin mini 7 spline rim sprocket  on a 029/MS290, 039/MS390, MS310.
And the 034/MS341, 036/MS361,.....with Stihl OEM parts.

Stihl sprocket kit (3/8 7T) 1125 007 1002
The rim included is standard 3/8 but still mini 7 spline.
Another # is 1125 007 1001 (.325-7T).

Bearing #9512 933 2260.

I only found these kits on U. K. E-Bay. Appears in Europe they  didn't do what we did here in North America....upgrading all the 034, 036 etc. to the preferred standard 7 spline sprocket drums.

Reason I figure is in the North American market the standard 3/8 chain with longer bars was blowing out too many mini 7 drum bearings.
So Stihl went with the standard 7 spline rims and drums, part#1125 007 1041. Bearing # 9512 933 2380 (same bearing as 044AV).

So there you go start putting those 63PS chains and 7T mini rims on the MS341,361 and 290,390 series saws.

Don't worry about blowing the small bearings with the narrow kerf PS63.
