Sabre .315 pitch in .050 & .058
« on: February 04, 2012, 07:47:31 am »
Flopping around Ebay as usual found some Sabre .315 pitch chain in .050 &. 058.  I had seen .354 chain but did not know .315 pitch was made.  Does anybody know what saws it was used on?

Sabre had some strange stuff...
I think they experimented quite a bit with the chains.

It is 0,01" shorter than .325. That is 0,2540mm On ten drivers it is less than 2mm.

Not sure if it is any different to run, it depends a bit of how the driver seat in the rim/sprocket.

You should ask the guy's who sold these in 70's perhaps early 80's what they think.
A couple of them are saw collectors and read a lot on CSCF.

Sven Johnson would be my best bet, he can likely say for sure, unlike me that speculate...

A PM to him could be a good idea.

It isn't a misprint. Sabre made the 315 pitch chain and also supplied the sprockets to fit several saws. Guess they figured that they would lock the customer into their chain.
It didn't take off. I still have some here in my collection.
Sven.

The 315 pitch chain was made before Sabre was picked up by Textron.
We used it on Homelite XL12 saws and it actually improved the cutting speed.
Ended up with a little left as the sprockets were no longer available.

Loaded your pics Sven, Thanks for sharing them.
