Saw Chain Reference Manuals - Available Online

Saw Chain Reference Manuals

Most manufacturers of saws and chains have technical information on their websites. Some also publish helpful information that you can read, print, download, save, etc.  Because there is so much to try and remember, I refer to these periodically, and refer others to them frequently. You may want to save some of the PDF versions on your hard drive, in case they become hard to find on the web.

Oregon Maintenance and Safety Manual
Includes the chain basics (pitch, gauge, parts of the cutter, sequencing, etc.); sharpening; repair and maintenance of chain, bars, and sprockets; diagnosing damage and failure of chains, bars, and sprockets; and technical data on all of their current chains.

The current, US, on-line edition is here:

Oregon Forestry Products Catalog
Includes a lot of technical information on their products, including: available chains and components; product coding system for bars; bar tail silhouettes; replacement parts; specifications; configurations; etc.

To access the on-line catalog:

http://www.oregonproducts.com/pro/pro_home.htm
Go to 'Products' tab
Drop down to '2015 Forestry and OEP Catalog'

Carlton Products Catalog
On-line version, similar in format to the Oregon catalog, above.

http://carltonproducts.com/
Go to 'Products' tab

Carlton Complete Book of Saw Chain
Since Carlton was acquired by Oregon, their saw chain manual has morphed into a version of the Oregon one. A few PDF versions of the 'classic', that discussed the rationale for their File-O-Plate (FOP) and 'progressive depth gauges', are floating around the web.

PFERD Chainsaw Field Guide
Pferd makes lots of files, file holders, etc. This guide contains lots of basic information on chains, sharpening chain with a round file, reference material on different brands of saw chain, and information on Pferd products.

Bailey's Chainsaw Chain Cross Reference

Nice links and info.  Thank you for your time researching and putting this altogether so we can find and learn from.

Thanks for doing this.

I've been browsing through the links
We should share what we know... someone may learn...

A lot of the information is not necessarily new - it's just helpful to have it all in one place.  If the Mods want to move/redistribute this info to other threads, to keep similar things together, I have no problem with that.
