Small bar & chain on 346
« on: December 06, 2015, 07:53:25 pm »
I found a like new Oregon 14" bar & chain I think it is ko41 hanging among my bars & chains on the wall and I have no clue where I got it, but I got to thinking, I have new 3/8 oregon rim to fit the 346 drum & a new 52 dl loop of Stihl PS.
Now I thought I heard on this forum that oregon uses the same rims for both 3/8 & 3/8 lp, so I dug out the new rim and it is a 7 pin.
Next I tried to put the small bar on one of my 346s and found the adjuster hole needs to be moved closer to the center of the bar, after some machining with a 7/32 file the bar fit as it should.
When I tried to put the chain on it was too short because this setup usually uses a 6 pin sprocket, then I noticed there was a good 3/16 between the end of the bar & the rim, so a little more work with the file elongating the adjuster hole and the chain fits.
Since it is a quiet Sun. aft. here in town I didn't go out to the log but I will tomorrow.
I should have chain speed off the graff if the 346 will pull that sprocket, if not I can try it on my strongest 357.         Any thoughts?

Sounds like you had to do everything we all did when using K041 bar to a 346. I did it several times and have used it the other way doing K095 to poulans.

Make sure you line and drill a oiler hole up on the K041 bar for the K095 mount  if the adjuster hole dont line up to oiler area on bar mount pad. ;)

Looks like the oiler lines up ok.
Yeah, I've been using the KO95s on the Poulans also.
My main concern is the 7 pin being too much for the high revving 346.

LOL no way to much for 346 IMO.  With the 3/8LP I have a 7 on a echo 3900 39cc and echo 4500 45cc.   Both stock in super dry harden ash. 20" 4500, then 12" on 3900 couldnt reach through.
