Stihl Rapid Hexa file
« on: June 06, 2021, 03:37:34 pm »
Thread from Chainsaw Repair group FB

You know all these new X-cut style chains. I even noticed my Holz chain has this type of look. I guess stihl has a file to recreate it too.
Seems to copy the husky X-cut profile?   Pics from Willard.

Never seen that before but it looks like it would cut pretty good.

Kevin, thanks for looking into this Hexa file.
I'm a Facebook friend of the guy down under too. I won't bother messaging him for the part #. It will eventually show up here in North America. My relatives saw it somewhere in Norway but couldn't get a # from them.
Looks like a great concept as it works very well on the Husqvarna X Cut chain. But it appears there is no X Cut file to maintain it, only through a grinder.
Great cutter profile for Timbersports andveven for a work chain. Easy as using a round file.
Only thing needed as I can see is a file guide to clamp onto this hexa file to keep consistency in all the cutters.

Looks like the file only will cut on two sides on the picture?

I found this patent online on some other forums. It seems that it's even easier to sharpen than with a round file. Looks very promising.
I'm very curious when this will hit the market. But it looks like we'll find out soon if there are already chains and files out there. Maybe some prototypes?

I would not mind getting a hold of some of those files and trying them out.

Since it been here and others tested too. Sounds like gimmick = Trev - Spoiler Alert: I've been testing Hexa since January, stateside. (You just need the right PN.) I can't find any increase in cut speed outside of the margin of error over multiple species. I hope I'm wrong, alot of people depend on my timing abilities. 😕
