I got a section of rubber coated/impregnated hose and made up a scabbard for a larger saw (MS660 with 36" bar).  I made it extra long to protect the bar and chain when not installed on the powerhead, because we found the saws easier to transport and store in that manner.  The hose was used and I scrubbed it clean, then bleached out the interior due to ? growing in there.  Took a couple of days to fully dry when 'blocked' open in my basement with a piece of wood.

That made me nervous - started thinking about expensive bars and chains rusting if stored like that.  The plastic scabbards dry out pretty quickly. So would a wrap-around style canvas protector.  Might be different if you use the saws every day. Might be a reason to use uncoated, canvas hose.  But I don't want to pull out a 'surprise'.  I have not heard of this happening with anyone's bar inside a fire hose, but I think that I will repurpose this hose for a crosscut saw protector - it would be slit open, and not a tube.

I very much like the new Stihl bar covers. Nice that they are one piece and cheap to buy. Have them on all my saws in the chip truck saw box sure does beat putting a hole in a fuel tank.

You talking about the guy at Shelby?

I've bought Stihl scabbards there. He didn't rip me off or anything. Bought a few Stihl parts from him too. He treated me OK.

Yea Shelby. I lost a side cover nut in the woods the other day. I went there to get one.  I got a scabbard while I was there.
I went to the woods the next day and managed to lose another nut. I was in Ashland Saturday morn so I stopped at M and M.
