I really like the way a 16" b/c feels on the 346.
I like the laminated husky narrow kerf .325 bars and Oregon 20lpx chian.

I won the 346 build earlier this year with a Dolmar branded Oregon bar and Windsor 50APL chain.

What are the pros and cons of a .050 bar/chain vs. a .058 bar/chain?

Around here it is hard to find anyone locally that stocks .058" gauge chain. So I don't run it.

In some areas it is rather popular

I run .050 on everything except my 084 which has .063.
If I acquire an .058 or .063 bar and/or chain it goes on the next saw I sell, or it just goes period.
Having all those different gauges just adds another area for error when you get out in the woods.

It SUCKS to have an extra, well sharpened chain with you and then find out that it is the wrong gauge!

Naturally there's a lot of different thoughts on chain gauge . . . .

Anything bigger than .050" is just more weight the whirl around the bar?

Many chains are made at .056" or .063" and the drive links are ground down to .050" where they fit in the bar?

The wider gauges are stronger? Though I never had any problem with .050" . . .

Most of the Stihl chainsaws that come with .325" pitch chain are .063" gauge from the factory.

When I was a kid I used to watch my neighbor do like AL was talking about when making chains.

Grind the head off the rivet and use a punch to knock the preset out of the tie plate.

Then he used a little ball peen hammer on the new preset to peen it over.
