Bolens (MTD) BL110 Trimmer
« on: June 28, 2013, 02:10:29 pm »
Got a POJ Bolens MTD model BL110 crooked shaft trimmer from a friend to fix the starter.  He pulled the cord out.  Very sad guy is in bad financial straights.  Vietnam Vet with agent ORANGE ISSUES.  Veterans Affairs are screwing around with him.  Needed a trimmer bought this POJ cause that was all he could afford.  He's used it 3-4 times and it breaks.  Really pisses me off that they manufacture junk like this.  Anyway began disassembly couldn't get the clutch off to get to the starter.  Inside clutch drum is a T-20 screw RH thread you have to remove to get the drum off.  Does not show screw in IPL it comes preinstalled in clutch drum.  MTD service says remove clutch w/brass punch.  I kinda guessed that. ::)

Got to the starter, the starter pulley is locked on with a metal ring forced fit over the pulley shaft.  No PN in IPL for starter pulley guess you have to buy housing and all to get a new pulley.  Really P.O'd now.

It'll cost you $20 to get that housing assembly to your house.

It is, both built by MTD. Those so called 'inverted' trimmers are a real pita to work on, many shops won't touch them as the labor approaches replacement cost.
