chainsaw just stopped working
« on: February 09, 2014, 11:43:09 am »
Have this really frustrating problem.. Some months ago i bought a cheap cbainsaw in obi a german hardware store.. I took it home and gased it up seems to work fine put it away.. Now some months later i took it out again to use it had hard time cutting a tough tree.. The saw ran out of gas i refilled but she never started up again.. I replaced with new gas checked that the spark plug was fine.. Put starting spray inthe carburetor.. Cleaned the exhaust but nothing.. I pull the cable and she makes a starting purr but never cranks over to fully ignition.. Anybody have suggestions

Did you leave fuel in the saw for some months? Do not use starting fluid in two cycle engines! Does the chain rotate freely around the bar? If not are you sure the chain brake is not on? What brand chainsaw is it? Can you post a picture?

Hey yes the chain moves freely its tkped to max with chainsaw oil.. I even cleaned out all the saw dust around.. But the problem is not that the chain saw startsnbut chain doesnt move..vthe. Problem is that engien doest crank over i just makes a purr when i pull the cord but no doest really startup totally...  The starter fluid was a tip i got from youtubes ericthecarguy and donyboy73.. The chain saw is a generic 51cc  there is no brand name it just says chainsaw on the lable its green.. It was on sale a stock brand.. The blade and chain are from oreon

+1 DO NOT use starting fluid.  Use mixed fuel with squirt can or bottle to squirt in carb with throttle pulled or down the sparkplug hole.

Do you have the ability to check compression? If you do, check that,  if less than 100psi (689.4kPa) the saw is not going to start and run. You should then remove the muffler and have a look at the piston through the exhaust port, to determine if there is piston damage (scoring). Let us know what you find.

How do i check if the piston is scored? I took out the muffler and there was some sut blackish fuel... But i reall couldnt get a doog look at the piston.. But with the muffler and spark plug off the piston seems to move easily.. How can i check the psi inthe chamber?

You need a compression tester, auto mechanic will have one in his workshop. Was the muffler full of fuel? I assume the muffler is off the saw at this point. If there was a bunch of fuel in the muffler, leave the muffler off the saw put the plug back in and see if the saw will start and run with the muffler off. If the saw starts and runs, you have found your problem.

The saw was so badly flooded that it was dumping raw fuel into the muffler.

Where are you, Germany?

OK some looked into through removed muffler didn't see any real signs of scorching on the piston.. All though with all the plug removal I just now broke the plug cap so next step is to replace this....
