Echo PPT 280 261 260 pole saw
« on: May 06, 2011, 05:01:19 pm »
A week ago I purchase a new Echo PPT 280 pole saw.  I have too many trees here that are hanging over places they should not be. After looking at the cost of having it done I chose to "do it myself" and end up with a saw for about the same price.  I got the 4 ft extension for it also.  It is a little awkward with all that lenght and weight but it starts easy and with a sharp chain cuts really good.

Any of you have any experience with these saws or pole saws in general??

Traded for a echo  PPT 261 last year and it came all the way from Calif in parts and was real fun to put the puzzle back together.

So far I am impressed  with the build and cut of it, still learning to use it myself.

Back when I was researching on mine.

Also  5' section was available for 261 and others.  http://www.echo-usa.com/pdf/documentation/9994640002030e_041007.pdf

I was just curious on the echo number to compare.

PPF 225 7'9" Dry Weight (lb)* 13.9 no bar chain

PPT S 265 8' Dry Weight (lb)* 15.1 "" ""

PPT 265 12' 2" Dry Weight (lb)* 17.4 "" ""

PPT 261 12' 10" Dry Weight (lb)* 16.7 "" ""

PPT 280    13'        Dry Weight (lb)* 19.2 '' '' '' ''

Oh come on...it couldn't have been that hard to put back together, it came apart really easy!! :)

The only thing that gave me real trouble was the 4 black plastic parts that have to be  together as one and ride down the spline shaft as one piece. It was impossible till I came up with a redneck plan.  ;D

So you have that 084 running a pipe yet?

So far the only complaint is if I'm reaching up for that little extra height it sucks my shirt in the intake and dies.  Not a problem if I don't wear a loose shirt or jacket.  The saw came with a 12 inch blade but a 14 inch is an option.  I may try to fit a 16 inch on it for those braches at bad angles.  I think the saw has the power to spin it.

Mine PPT 280 weighs 22 1/2 pounds with no gas and the bar oil tank half full.

Oh remember how I told you I gave the 35cc poulan in pic above to a friend for a back up saw to the partner 500 he used for firewood cutting. Well I was over at his house having a few  and he gave it back. To small for back up duties in hardwoods he said. So now it is going to be my loaner saw.  If the dang thing didnt weigh 50cc weight with 35cc power it would have been gone the other day.  So I had to build a poulan 1800 30cc trim saw for a guy out of 4 parts saws.

I wonder if echo has a angled head like this from stihl.  http://www.worldofpower.co.uk/stihl-angled-gearhead-for-ht-pole-pruner-and-km-ht-combi.html
