Got to run a 1946 Disston/Mercury two man saw
« on: July 26, 2014, 08:32:42 am »
Went to a small engine show in Marion, NY to help out a buddy here on CR (DeanOsaws). Cool stuff he had and got to run some of the stuff. The 2 man Disston was a 1946 DA-211 36 inch two man bar, 340cc 11HP twin. The saw was a **** cat and a blast to run, governed to 4K RPMs. We cut some off a dry piece of locust and the saw just chugged right through it. Learned that it was the bar-end guy's job to run the oiler which is a constant flow mechanical affair using a spring activated plunger.

Sorry no pics (I only have a 'dumb' phone) but a great experience, thanks Dean! I'll be back next year!

Larry S AKA "Chainsaw 57" has one .I thought it sounded like a Mercury outboard boat motor but then again should I guess if you get right down to it . ;D

On that big two man saw a story .A few years ago at a GTG in Ohio the host had a beech log that must have been petrified .I mean hard as cast iron .It slowed them all down,Stihl 066,McCulloch SP 125 even a good running Stihl 090 .Larry and helper shot that big old two man down through it like it was butter .That's what cubic inches will do .

Well after talking to Dean for more info, that saw was a joint effort between Disston and Mercury Marine so it probably is some adaptation of a outboard engine. I understand that there was also a 12HP version.

Hey Tim,   Thanks for coming over to the show...  I was a great time!

The saw is a 1946 Henry Disston KB7-AY with 11 HP by Mercury... Not much info about displacement on these, but I found it listed as a 325cc engine and have verified that on another saw.  Here is a pic:

I remember Larry at the 07 GTG in Ohio kick starting some kind of 2 man saw. His are the only ones I have ran.
Brad would bring his to gtg's since but never ran his because I had already ran Larry's.

Ran something with a big bow on it too.
