I do the same thing as Cut4Fun. I am retired and started this to keep myself busy, now it seems that this is all I have time for!

Do mostly chainsaws but some other stuff depending. I get lots of stuff in that is beyond reasonable cost to repair, and end up saving it. During the off months when I am not building custom saws, I sort through all the beyond repair stuff I have to see what can be made of it. Last year at this time I had 16 or so saws that were rebuilt out of parts that were ready to sell when the spring season got under way.

I also do a lot of work for tree companies and local governments, who store up all their non running stuff and bring me sometimes a pickup load of stuff to repair. They usually tell me to build up what I can and keep the rest, lots of really nice parts arrive in this manner.

Also in my area the local dealers are not of a mind to repair things, they would rather sell you something new especially if there is no warranty $ in the deal. I do a lot of the older Husqvarna and Stihl saws because people do not want to buy new because of the expense. So I am known locally for being able to repair things that dealers do not want to mess with.

For the pro cutters that are customers I have a standing deal that goes like this, during the off-season if you bring in your saws I will put in new ring and lines for a flat fee of $50 per saw. They eat it up! Sometimes I have 50 or more of these in here for that service.
