« on: December 24, 2013, 07:43:50 pm »

strunk saw (1953?) with a ah47 motor equipped with H model tilly.  believe it originally had a HS.  runs and cuts.

soon as i can get a few parts, will be getting into it.

have not been inside one of these, and looking forward to it.

has anyone had any experience with these?

regards

-joe

http://www.hastingsmfg.com/RingFinderMasterDetails.aspx?AppMACD=POWPCHAI&AppMOCD=POWER%20PRODUCTS%20Chain%20Saws&AddText=(Listed%20by%20Cylinder%20Diameter)

need a chain tensioner; kill switch; brass fuel shut-off; piston maybe

had some part numbers at one time for some of the parts.

I've got an old Lombard with an AH 47 that has a float carb mounted at 45 degrees .It 's a Tillotson  they used on boat motors circa 1956 or so .

Also have an AH 58 on a Sears gear drive late 50-early 60's .

When they ran the AH 47 on the go karts they had a special class to run them in .They were considered kind of entry level engines as was Clinton .However the big ones,AH 81 ran with the big McCullochs and Westbend 820's .They often had
"bango " bolts on the AH 81's running on alkie/nitro /castor oil to keep from blowing the cylinders off them .

The AH 47's were kind of like Briggs and Stratton is today ,just a generic engine used for a lot of things .Approx 4 HP .

Hi Joe,  I just repaired a Strunk saw for a friend.  I believe it was a model 3-19 and it had an MD Tillotson float carburetor.  I did not get into the engine internals, just fuel tank and carb cleaning and cleaned/regapped the points.  I'm not sure about availability of new parts, but I think quite a few different saw brands used this engine so you should be able to find a parts saw if necessary.  Good Luck!   Dean

parts search goes on.  not going to create another pile of parts laying around until i find all thats needed before dissassembly.  not in a rush.

we had some flooding because of the hurricane over the summer, basement got it.  had to pick wet cardboard boxes of parts from many engines off the floor.  wife was nice enough to mix parts, nuts, bolts, screws from various motors and carbs together for me in into a two plastic storage bins.  the rupp mnibike i'm restoring was down to the frame, got thrown in the mix with 100's of other bolts washers etc.  all this, while i was outside trying to divert the creek.  what a puzzle.

seems some lombards, david bradley used ah47's as well, probably others.  karting sites seem to have lots for the 58 series motors, not much of anything for 47's.  will try the ebay route, thx 660.  seems like this crazy saw weighs about as much as a large car battery, if a complete saw shows up, hope its close enough to go get it with my truck.

There may even be some commonality of parts between a 47 and a 58?

I remember there to be a lot of 47 parts around in the early 60's. Don't think the 58 Kart engine came out until very late 61 or 62? That does not do us much good now though.

The 47's never made much of a kart engine even using the Horstman bango bolt head .

The 58's ran with the Westbend 580's and Mac 8 and 9's .It was a brand loyalty thing with the karters just like the big ado with chainsaws or a Ford /Chevy thing .

I have a 580 Westbend kart engine that used to be on a mini bike that I swear would run 75 MPH --in about a city block --zoooom.
