Can anyone explain how this recoil functions on these and how is it suppose to be grabbing the inside of the flywheel pulley to start it?

Fairbanks Morse friction starter I am trying to fix.

Totte and Magnus gave me some good info to look into trying to get it to work again.

Many many many THANKS go out to Mitch mweba for being able to cross reference this saw over to a JD make and get me the parts needed to fix a friends saw from his dad's past days.

The pulley you sent was updated compared to the smooth pulley this one had and the friction washers and parts were in great shape compared to the worn out parts I pulled from the saw.

I now can turn it over and have spark. Just waiting for it to un-flood now.  :P :-[

I was looking at that starter yesterday. Glad you got some good parts to make it work. The way it was, you didn't have much to work with.

Got it to fire off again. Pulls over every pull now.  8)

I talked to owner and got more on the story. This saw was bought by his grandad for his dad as his first saw. When his dad passed on the saw was left to him.  He wants me to go ahead and finish getting it running for old time sake and memories.

Carb is a HS so that should be easy to get a kit for.  Hope them ole black lines are good.  :-\

Had good news for owner today. She runs, idles, and cuts and I let him hear it over the phone as I started it for him.

Anyone know the cc of these I dont remember.   Cuts good for it's age IMO with 3/8 72.

Also weirdest fuel filter I have seen molded into the fuel line itself.
