even the 33cc poolans are more powerful out of the box than the 46cc ryobi/homelite.

These 33cc poulans are really 42cc saws.  Like 3314 3316 etc. They do say 42cc class on the back sticker.
I've never pulled a top and measured.

It seems that over the years Poulan would use the parts on hand to complete the job,  even if it meant that the CC/CI exceeded what the labels on the covers read.   Hopefully they didn't work the same in reverse!
I'm a chainsaw hoarder & tinkerer.  The brand isn't usually important,  if the price is right I'll probably buy it.
