Solo 154 Brush Cutter
« on: November 19, 2014, 10:19:27 am »
Having been a Solo Service Center for a few years, I sometimes get the opportunity to get products at a substantial discount. I purchased one of the 154 brush cutters to give to my brother who has a stream on his property and his HVA weed wack just can't cut the mustard in that situation. Having never worked on or run one of these, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them?

Specs can be found here:

Thanks

Have no idea Adam, it is still in the box. No sense messing with it now, here in the great white North! Don't know about 'beast' but certainly better than his homeowner Husqvarna. Supposedly will do a string head, plastic cutter head and a blade.

At 54ccs it should be plenty for a clearing saw or heavy string trimmer use.

I use a 53.3 cc Husqvarna everyday for work and it has more then enough power. I also have one I use around the yard and I put a string trimmer on it and seems to work great.   Cylinder displacement   3.3 cu.inch / 53.3 cm³ Power output   3.8 hp / 2.8 kW

Id put a regular blade on that solo. we cut trees 5 inch across the stump with 9" blade everyday at work even bigger if we have to. Is that solo for professional use? could it be used for silviculture work or is it something for personal use?

Well, it is advertised as 'pro' use. It does support a string, three blade plastic, and a saw blade head, at least Solo has all three types as spares. The thing is heavy 20 pounds +/-, and uses a double shoulder harness. So I guess we will see. The thing is in the shop still in its' box.

Them harness's if adjust properly you barely  notice the weight of the saw. If it has a waist strap on the harness its even better. I enjoy operating brush cutters/thinning saw

Thanks Miller-Thinner2, I don't know about the waist strap, so will have to check it out. My brother was in a car accident years ago that broke his neck. So he and I need to pay particular attention to what he can comfortably operate. The machine is supposed to have 6-way bicycle handle bars and this harness that allows the 20 pound weight of the machine to be in balance when you are operating it.

Thank you for your knowledge and sharing your experience!
Tim
