Got it. So the 45 is the same as the 46 then?

The 46 has a longer shaft than the 45 is the only difference

OK. Found I need special tools for removing the clutch drum. I think the either drum or clutch is bad.  Will stay running on idle with head spinning wide open but once I squeeze that trigger sound goes really low pitch then cuts off. I rebuilt carb and put in heated ultrasonic cleaner for a 180s heated cycle before I rebuilt it.

You just need a torx head driver to remove the drum.

It sounds like you don't have the shaft pushed far enough up into the engine housing and the shaft isn't getting very far into the clutch.

I never had it apart. I bought it and craftsman chainsaw for $50 not working. Put reloaded the autocut stringhead and 50:1 trufuel in it. Ran fine 2-3 times til this happened.

Just Id report back and found that the carb is the issue.  So now I have 2 FS46 that both need new carbs. These are chokeless carbs. Zama C1Q-S44a, C1Q-S58 Must get from Stihl dealer. NLA from Zama.

I bought a carb for a 55 a couple years ago. It was close to $30 with Tax, Shipping, etc. The whacker run perfect with out adjusting the needles.

This carb only has one screw to adjust.
