old craftsman roper 3.7 stuck screws

stuck screws that hold case together at bottom about ready to drill heads off these. need it apart for broke fuel line. good looking saw no rust but these screws are not moving. can propane torch be used on magnesium case

You shouldn't have to split the cases to change the fuel line.  Can you post a pic of which Roper you have?  There were two distinct styles of Craftsman/Roper 3.7ci saws.

You can apply 'flameless' heat to screw heads with a soldering gun.  Get 'em hot, put the soldering gun dow, and then spritz some good penetrant at the base of the screw head.  It'll suck the penetrant into the threads.

have to get kid to help with pictures phone is smarter than me . I have the older one too this is newer  red one not older one marked sportster. electronic ignition.

You can use a piece of thin wire (or heavy fishing line) tied through the end of the fuel line to pull the line through the tank.  No need to split the cases there (which would be a PITA).

Cut your new fuel line longer than needed.  Install the fuel filter on one end. 

Thread your wire or fishing line through the hole in the tank and fish it out of the fuel filler hole. 

Cut the other end of the new fuel line into a point, then melt a hole through that pointed section with a straightened paper clip, finishing nail, or similar that you heat up with a lighter/torch/etc. 

Thread the tank end of the wire or fishing line through that hole in the fuel line and twist/tie to secure.  Try to make sure that the knot/etc of wire/line is still smaller than the hole that you're pulling through.  I will tuck the free end of the wire/fishing line inside the fuel line if I can too.  Helps keep it from snagging. 

Pull the fuel line through the hole in the tank (or grommet if applicable).  It helps to oil up the line or grommet too. 

Pull the line through until the desired amount is in the tank with the filter on the end. 

Cut the cab end to proper length and install on the carb barb.

well it is a grommet one of the other saws had a metal fitting there. time to put on glasses and engage brain.

That sounds all too familiar...

The saws with the fitting are a bit easier.

tore a roper  craftsman 2.5 down this morning. odd little saw but it went smooth.  think all i need is fix tiny crack in seam of gas tank and put kit in tillotson hk5a  it should run .  ran with mix poured down carb and was free.

My dad had two of those things .He kept tweeking them until he broke the crankshafts .Why I have no idea.He rebuilt one which is now residing in Louisville Ky at my brothers .

Not extremely fast but torquey .Almost a second cousin in design to a Homelite xl-12 .

I keep getting so fascinated with this old stuff. Hard to get around to working on the stuff that might actually sell.
