the rules are no 2 pieces head and methanol is allowed
it was maple log  and one log was beech for every team
qualification had 13 logs and in final there was 14.

That beech will slow them down a tad bit .If it was all beech no doubt they'd have to file before they got through all the logs . Talk about hard as a rock .

Out of curiousity I looked up the hardness charts and found out that beech is listed as being softer than sugar maple, especially Canadian maple .My only conclusion to that chart is evidently we have softer sugar maple and harder beech . Of course the mineral content of the soil and the growth cycles have a lot to do with things .

That aside it looked like an interesting type of race . Fact I'd be interested in something like that. As the sawyer though not the stacker . ;D

Down here beech is the softer of the two.

The stuff around here is relatively hard when it's green but almost petrified when it's dry .The sugar maple isn't as hard as some say in Wisconsin or Ont..The whole deal is regional I suppose .

Cutting that pile of wood is not that bad ,but stacking it is another thing. Those who do it have all my respect!!!

Not to skew too far from the thread but in looking at the hardness charts I was surprised at the hardness of ash .Fact in talking to my trimmer bud who has been taking them out by the hundreds he remarks how much filing he has to do .

Of course being grave yard dead and standing they don't take long to become hard as a rock . I flopped three myself yesterday afternoon and I'll need to do some filing on the chain before I cut them up .---back to the races ---
