A customer brought in a Dolmar 119 saying that it would start and run until it got hot then would not start. I cannot get it to start at all! Not familiar with this saw so need some answers to a few questions.

Is there a way to tell what kind of ignition it has without pulling the flywheel?

Is a special puller necessary to pull the flywheel?

I am thinking won't start when hot could be a failed or failing coil or condenser what do you all thing.

Thanks Jim, I gather from the above that they all had some sort of electronic ignition. The picture attached is the type the saw uses I believe. Given its arrangement it appears that it is mounted beneath the flywheel.

I have not had a 119 apart.

I have a 115, 6800, 5105, and two 7900's. That is the limit of my Dolmar experience.

The .pdf above was first listed as being for the 119 but when you load it the 119 is not in the ipl?

Here is what it is related to . . .
DOLMAR 117, 118, 119, 122, 143, 144, 152, 153 [#144143000]

Here is a picture of a after market coil. It appears to be the same as the small picture you presented but there is a trigger or points on the other side.

Best I can figure is that the 119 was the predecessor to the straight 120 (not the 120S) They are the same bore and stroke.

Thanks for the above. In taking the saw apart, I noticed that the recoil spring was damaged (in that the end that engages the starter pulley was broken off). I was able to get a AM replacement from U-Pep. However there are two phenolic disks that sandwich the recoil spring. One of them has a hole in it probably caused by the end breaking off the recoil spring. Have looked around trying to find a replacement but no luck. Anyone have any ideas on how to repair the damage or another part that can be used?

The parts situation for Dolmar/Makita is deplorable unless it is a current production style. It is hard to get parts even for the 111/115 and 6000/6800 and they were made up to somewhere around 10 years ago.

The one I just posted seems like the one Jim posted. His had the 120S, the one I had dont show that one.
