I've seen German saws with the arrow pointing towards the intake with the initials "Ei" at the arrow. "Ei" is for einlass which is intake in German.

The main point to look for is that the ring end gaps cannot cross a port. So your pins should never cross a port!

If a end gap gets caught in a port it will be bad news.

You had better take a better look at your chainsaw?
