Thanks bitburger that was a nice read.

Well speaking of 119's I had mine out the other day and was using it.   Man these saws have some torque in the wood.
Well anyways it was being very hard to start and I had to prime it to first start it.

So I decided to take the carb back off and raise the lever for the needle just alittle to richen it up some.   Bingo, after putting it back together I got it to start in 3 pulls.   Can't wait to get out and cut wood again with it.

Thanks, my pleasure! 3000 FPS, you might also check if the radial gaskets are still tight! Bad starting can also be caused by lean mixture. They all have the full rubber coated oil seals, different from the ones that are used today. When the rubber becomes soft after being exposed to gasoline and oil for 30 years, they can be easily pushed out of their seat by bare fingers and often cause false air. Off topic: What kind of cartridges do you have on your avatar? Look very advanced without a separated cap  8)

Here some pics of the two guys, 117(with black bar as well because the red one looks so sh..y) and 119:

And something very funny in the end, on 119 they made some experiments with a handle-heating by using exhaust gases, such as sometimes seen on Partner-saws. I don't think that more than a few were around, it looks like they were modified by hand at Dolmar, after the finished "basic"-saw had already left the regular production process: They cut off parts of two cooling fins, attached a different muffler with two additional ports (based on the US-muffler with front ports, not the one with the side port, this space was required for the two more ports) and put two Teflon tubes through the whole saw, one of them reaching in each handle. I really don't think that this was ever going to work, must have smelled even more since they were additional holes in both handles...but this is soooo typical Dolmar company! Very charming! I have only seen two of them in my life, at least in the States there are mufflers around that also had the ports, but were 114-sized. Maybe there is a heated 114 too?

best Chris

I have inspected the seals and they are ok.   The saw idles good and 4 strokes at WOT.   I had rebuilt the carb about 9 months ago and this is the first time I really had a chance to give the 119 a good work out.   So all is good now.

You know bitburger you got me to thinking I have tried to find a source for those radial seals or as I call them crank seals and have never found a replacement.  Do you know of any sources?

You need 15x28x7 (mm) magnet-side, Part No: 962 900 053

and 15x30x7 (mm) clutch side, Part No: 962 900 031

each of them with "semi dual seal", that means a second lip on the outside that protects the main lip from dust.

Sometimes they were offered as a kit in German ebay, but since their size is some kind of "industry-standardized" in Germany (DIN) (in contrast to many of STIHL is using), it also was easy to get them in the www.

Here in the States I do not know, there are some of them in ebay as well

but you have to figure out the right sizes.

He did talk about the the 120S or 120 Super

"As a basically completely new saw, they released the 120 si in the late 80ties. Dolmar kept their remarkable design for a very long time and it looks still very familiar. However the parts between 120si and 120/119 were almost not interchangeable anymore, everything was new designed."

"The 120si was a beast, 68 ccm, plastic tank, modern "single module ignition" outside the flywheel (better cooling), much better air filter etc etc...and basically the same weight as the old 119 !!!"

"With the last upgrade, 120si -> ps6800 already under Makita in the early 90ties, the same saw got another sprocket cover (besides some other minor changes in other parts) with a chain brake that was (for the first time in Dolmar history) also "momentum activated" This assembly was quite heavy and the power to weight ratio dropped a lot...end of production somehow early 2000, also sold in Makita blue..."

Just repaired one for a customer, I liked the saw! 60cc, 47mm bore, 35mm stroke! Long stroke = gobs of torque and torque does the work not rpms.

I looked up that part number for the clutch side crank seal and what I have is   962 900 045
For the recoil starter side I get          962 900 031

Maybe there is a more updated parts lists that I am not aware of but the list I have shows Dolmar 117, 119, 120, and is good as far as I know.
