Dolmar 5100 carb
« on: December 11, 2014, 08:47:14 am »
Anybody figured out the problem/fix with the 5100 C1Q DM carbs?  Randy (MM) had put the 5100 on his will not port list because he had too many carb probems.  I hadn't had any problems with them until recently.  Now it's like is there any of them good.  Started looking into another C1Q carb I could swap shafts but haven't found anything yet.

My 5105 and 7900's have Zama carburetors and I've never had any problem with them.

But with carburetors that do have trouble beyond a diaphragm or trash in the screen problem have not been worthwhile trying to fix.

With the alcohol fuels, if I see evidence of white death in a carb - it's all over - new carb time. Many times the problems are from contaminated fuel.

Luckily, I've had no problems with my own stuff. The problems have come from stuff I horse traded for.

I went to the Husqvarna dealer last week and it was raining. There was a new Husky plastic type saw in a display, outside in the rain. I didn't think good of that.

thats just it. for all the talk about 5100/5105 having carb trouble i have seen 1 that needed the carb replaced in the last couple years. with that track record i could say that stihl 200,201,361,660 all have bad carbs too

I have 3 of these carbs that are bad. Tim or killiansredleo got me in touch with a gentleman selling them new for $50. All the bad ones would tune out & sound ok but after WOT rpm drop would not idle & just die. The new one worked fine so I pressed out the little valves from the good & into the bad using a bit upside down in my drill press & all was good so the problem lies in those little valves.  I tried to order just this part & zama had quit selling just the valves. What makes them go bad, I don't know, big possibility that it's a bad fuel issue.

The newest carbs used on the last year or two of 5105 seem to be much better, we haven't had a bad one yet.  The new replacement carbs have been just as good too.

We did 20+ through the 5100s and 5105 though.  The earlier poster is correct, at the time if we had a fairly new saw that just would not tune right after warm up it was time for a whole carb.

I'd still say we do the most 359/357xp/2159 carbs usually about 2 a week all year.

Second place would be small Stihls in the MS170 to MS250 range.

Third would go to MS200t but we have been able to repair those carbs with acc. pump removal most of the time.

Then, out side of the medals podium for carb replacement rate would be the 50cc Dolmar.

The accelerator pump zama carb on the 200t gets high marks for ingenuity but really didn't work that we'll even when new. We ran the earlier non limited Zama in all our ms200's and they were great.

Adam there is a member here that had a fix I guess for the 200 carbs (like Scott had on the 199 carbs).  They would rebuild them and send back. It's offered in their store here in where to buy online and a thread here somewhere.

Yes those were great!  There was also a service replacement ZAMA carburetor without the accelerator pump that works much better too, but I can't remember the exact number on it.
