dolmar 5105
« on: April 05, 2013, 09:28:56 pm »
i've had this dolmar 5105 sitting on the shelf for a little while, bought it new last summer.
once i have a couple more projects cleared up, i wouldn't mind going into it.
so i've heard that there is another piston that can be used, with wider skirts. what piston and what am i looking at to get it to fit properly? not looking to go extremely wide on the ports, but i do want a little more meat on the skirt. for the first go 'round, i won't be doing any timing changes, just make things flow better, unless somebody has some good numbers they would share either here or in pm's. i'm not somebody that goes around giving out info given in confidence ;). keep in mind this saw will be used as a chainsaw.
any hints that pertain to the 5105?

They run pretty good the way they are. Mine is a early one. I removed the 20" X regular 3/8" bar and put a 16" X regular 3/8" bar on it. I also removed the catalytic muffler and replaced it with a 5100 muffler. You might not notice it was changed unless mighty familiar with 5105's.

:) already have the 5100 muffler on it. and that did make a good difference. barely 3 tanks of fuel through it. and they do run well stock. but i know there is more in there. :)

A Husky 45mm 51 piston works in 510-5100-5105. Husky 353 45mm should work too.  Iknow the 51 does.  Haven't seen a 353.   Cut windows and trim skirts.

i have to get rid of this tooth in my head first. ;D started to ache yesterday morning but now it's at full blown scream >:(
i can't remember if that was the piston or not. can't remember where i heard what i seen :)
can't even think straight right now. hydromorphone kicking in but no relief.
bluh bluh bluh bluh :)
stupid tooth aches.
i think it might have been ehp that was putting a different piston in the 5100/5's

I empathize on the toothache :'( . I'm pretty dang tough and I've never had anything bust me like a toothache.  Was in Fla when it hit on a weekend too.  Dang near OD'd on Ibufrofen trying to get some relief.  Wife said I was babbling incoherently on the trip home.
Yes ED does post here.

:)lost a chunk from between 2 teeth a couple days ago while flossing. felt something moving around in there the floss couldn't get rid of so i broke out the water pik. blew a piece out half the size of a 3 year olds finger nail. went in to the emergency dentist (no pain at that time), she says it's infected and i need to wait until that clears up with antibiotics. say i'll need the hydromorphin when the tooth starts to dry out. boy was she right. it's kicking in good now, i can still feel it, but it's so far down there it feels like heaven right now.
i find it funny how a tooth ache needs to make my ass cheek feel like it was ripped off ;D i swear, my whole left side hurts like i have bad teeth all over.

thanks shep! i did see he was posting on here. just need all the guidance on this one. if there is any benefit to it in a work saw. :)
