Send EHP a PM about piston may be faster than waiting to see if he finds this thread.  If you do I'd be interested in a possible piston choice.  He has a site ehpsaws.com.

I assume the 5105 is fine, if you want a heavy 50cc saw, that handles like a brick... ;)

tell you what troll. you know what i don't like about the high horsed husky 346/ jonny 2153? they DO NOT make torque like the 5100/5105. they are peaky, cheap feeling and the antivibe might aswell not be there as it doesn't do anything it's supposed to.
quite honestly, the only one thing the 346 has over the dolly is the throttle response. nothing else.
you need to understand that a little extra weight will help with the vibrations, also helps when you have a properly designed antivibe system, which husqvarna has totally missed the boat on. even the 555-562's could use a better spring system they're sent out the door with.
seems the only complaint you can come up with is the husky is lighter and has quicker throttle response. how does this affect the regular firewod guy blocking wood in his yard?
maybe husqvarna should be trying to come up with a better plastic that doesn't fade, crack, break and wear prematurely, you know, maybe a little more quality for the long run, instead of trying to win the throttle response race.
then again. maybe some people need to go and do some weight training if they're going to complain about a weight difference they can't feel while holding the 2 saws side by side.
the 346 is narrower. i'll give it that. but it certianly isn't worth the extra money they ask for it. i'd sooner just cut the tree slightly higher off the ground.
everything equal. i'd still pick the 5105 over the 346. the 346 feels like a chinese kids toy.

besides that, the 346 is an old obsolete relic destined for the old shed where all the other prematurely worn out huskies are stored ;)

I'm with you!!!  I have 1-346NE and 8-5100's(3-NIB) and a old "Tank" 510.  I never use the 346 guess I ought to sell it.  Much prefer the Dolmars.  Then the Big Dolmars 6401/7900, 2-6401/8401BBK's, Solo 681.  On the Husky "handling" factor the Husky 242/246 beat the 346 IMB.  Handling is determined by the user.  I've had 346 guys (10 years running 346's) say my 5100s handle better.

Sorry guys I never looked here , first NO I never put a different piston in the 5100/5105 and honestly never looked for one , You can just use the stock piston and make very good gains , I have put pop ups in them and had good luck with them and cut the piston above the ring done as low as .090 left and piston never broke and it had the **** run out of it cutting firewood and I mean hundreds of tanks of fuel , Like any dolmar you have to watch how you port these motors and the 5100/5105 seem to be the worse at this , if you over port the transfers you will end up with a saw that has no balls at all and it boils the gas in the crankcase , with their small volume crankcase and larger transfers it just pulls to hard and creates way to much heat in the case  so do not be putting husky 346 porting numbers in a 5100 or you will have a gut bucket of a saw , One thing thou is this saw does like having the flywheel advanced

awesome info ed! thank you very much! i have no idea where i heard about switching pistons out. it was a while ago. i actualy haven't even checked the squish on this one yet :) figure all i'll be doing is getting that in order and just smoothing everything out to flow better. i don't really want to mess with changing any numbers as of yet.
what about the muffler? i've heard too many back and forths on this to make you car sick. one will say there's no gains to be had and the other will swear the saw will turn into a light sabre :D i already have the non cat muffler on it, and it did make a big improvement. but it's a still 'stock'.
