Does the C on the dolmar 6400C just mean it has a catalytic muffler on it?

AFAIK, the "C" just means catalytic muffler which is rather heavy

Thanks guys I'm the one trying to find out. I agree the saw is a bit heavy not sure if it is just the cat muffler. It is a great saw and cuts like crazy. Now that it is past warranty I figure I would look into opening it up a little. I may just pop the muffler off and see what it would take to "fix" it.

Does anyone know if the NON  CAT   muffler will bolt right in place of the CAT muffler. Just the muffler support bracket on the C version will be left off with the older style muffler?

This is a picture of my 6400 with the catalytic muffler. Take notice of the muffler brace and the little hole stuffers in the bolt holes.

This is the same chainsaw with a 7900 OEM jug and a regular 6400 muffler.

To change the mufflers, you have to order the top spacer and bolt for the early 6400 muffler.  You cannot use the brace with the old regular muffler.

To open up a cat muffler you have to grind the edge of the seam off to get to the insides . . . Then weld the muffler back together.

All the insides of the muffler should be cleaned out and a second external port added on the other side of the muffler.

Thanks again guys. 660 did you open up that muffler before installing it? I am guessing just removing the restriction of the catalytic converter may allow it to breath a good bit better. I think I may just have to try the new muffler rather than trying to cut apart the cat muffler and welding it back together.
