Last thing I have played with on these is the bucking spikes. I like the looks of dual spikes and since the saw thinks its bigger than it really is I might as well help it out. 5105 spikes will fit with minor to major work. Outer one is the minor work and inner is major. Outer just requires grinding to clear the front edge of the clutch cover. Inner requires cutting and welding new tabs on it.

I keep thinking these saws would be even better ported but that stuff is above my pay grade.  some day one may end up sent away or I may learn enough to be comfortable grinding on my own stuff

This saw landed on my doorstep a few days later. It is a great saw for 42cc's!  I'm running an 18" bar with carlton low pro chain and it cuts through mulberry and black locust like a laser. Lots of power and not too loud, Nate did a good job on the MM.

new model => 3hp
420sc = 421 = Makita EA4300

old Model => 2.7hp
420 = Makita DCS 4301
