I bought a Makita DCS 540 that had low compression. This had to be the filthiest chainsaw I ever bought. After cleaning up and disassembly, I noticed that the piston ring gap would allow the piston ring to move vertically about .005. It was worn so bad that the ring gap was nearly 1/16 ! Very little carbon buildup. First two stroke I ever worked on and would run in this condition? ? ?
Cylinder bore and piston were not even stained with no obvious signs of extreme wear, but the crank bearings were worn and loose.
Owner said the saw had never been rebuilt.---or cleaned--LOL
New Caber Piston Ring has .006 ring gap in cylinder.
