Yes I had 6401 = 6400 with a 7900 top also called 7901 makita.

Yep! color is the only diff.  Got 3 blue ones.  1-6401/7901, 2-6401/84cc BBK.

Never seen a 6400/6401/6421 with .325? couldn't even imagine some one converting it?

To answer your question, a different rim sprocket and bar for the kind of chain you are going to use.

was reading where someone bought a rental saw from a box store, figured they would have consumer type chain.

ok did some reading, comes with 3/8 .050 chain. don't mind me got my head up my exhaust.

Never seen a 6401 w/.325 chain.  If someone had converted it from 3/8 to .325 all you would need is a 3/8 rim sprocket and a 3/8 bar.  Just thinking never seen a D009 mt roller tip bar in .325.  .325 could be done with a hard tip bar but what for.
