Makita 6421 Weird Noise?
« on: January 20, 2015, 02:26:49 pm »
Hello everyone,

Just heard about this site from a AS member. Figured I would post my question here as there seems to be less clutter vs AS.

There's a noise coming from my 6421 after I run it. Not real sure how to describe it, sounds kind of like air is either escaping or being sucked in. Is this common or should I check the impulse line?

I removed the carb and lines after buying the saw from HD to clean it. Some genius sprayed orange paint all over it with the filter cover removed! There was paint residue inside the carb. Saw runs great despite the noise and there's no difference in idle when I move the saw around while running.

Tank vent?  Try when you get done running crack the gas cap and see what happens.

You know, that may be it. Damn I'm stupid. I saw some bubbling coming from near the fuel cap. Figured the cap wasn't tight enough.

If it's the tank vent, would I just need one of those duckbill type thingies to have a better seal?

Been long time since I owned a 6400 7900 saw.   Doubtful duckbill thingy.  I could be wrong though.

Thanks for the IPL, don't know why I didn't think of searching for it lol.

So I may have to replace the Packing Ring. Or I could just leave the saw alone as it runs great and I'm splitting hairs again.

I'm hoping the PP375 runs with no noise once I order the carb kit and fuel line/filter.

That saw should have the new style vent. Sounds like a loose gas cap or damaged o-ring on the gas cap?

The gas cap is a bit swollen so I have to use a wrench to get it on and off. Seems like all the caps I've seen swell up. My old Homelite's cap could never seat properly. I'll have to inspect the gas cap. I really hate the noise.

I have a couple 7900's with the same gas cap. Never any problem.

Could there be something different about your gasoline?
