So you don't have to use a wrench to get the cap on and off? BTW I would love to own a 7900!

Not sure about the fuel. How would that cause an issue? I fill it up with 91 octane 10% ethanol fuel. Only buy 1 gal at a time and use it all within a month.

Some plastic will swell with some gasolines . . .

One of my 7900's was originally a 6400 with the catalytic muffler.

I changed the cylinder/piston, decal, muffler/spacer, and installed a HD air filter.

Is that the saw? Man that thing is sexy! No that can't be it, paint looks to perfect. I was hoping the blue would wear on me but I still think it's an odd looking saw.

Mine was a Dolmar 6401, I think that's the number, to begin with. It was orange from the factory. I bought from the distributor a 6400 with cat muffler and a 24" bar. Looking at everything, it left the factory with a 20" according to the sticker under the handle and the distributor exchanged the bars.

The chain saw was made in October 2010. In the 2011 picture it had only made a couple test cuts. It still looks that way except it has dust on it.

I have another factory 2006 7900 that I went in and changed all the little parts here and there to make it like a 2010 7900.

The ground for the ignition is different, the clutch has a bigger bearing, the chain catcher is a different shape, and there is a limiter cap on the upper AV spring.

Oh I see. I thought the Dolmars had a different model number. I believe the older Makita 64cc saw was named 6401 and they had the non-cat/SLR or whatever it's called muffler. The 6421 mufflers have the added crap to them.

I should have just bought the Dolmar version. They're a bit more in price but look so much better.

You are too advanced for me, don't know half the stuff you just mentioned.

You have to take one thing at a time. We all had to learn too.

When you have a question, come on here and find the answer. There are some excellent people.

There's nothing wrong with a Makita. They are just blue / white instead of orange / black.

Many people like to put black covers on their Makitas.

Here is my makita 6401 = dolmar 6400  turned into a matika 7901 = dolmar 7900.

I was a fan of the new black tops with prefilters in them. I liked the muffler in black too. Not that it matters color.

Before in grey after in black.  Covers came from memeber 166 back in the day.
My local dolmar dealer couldnt help me out even when I had the part numbers in hand back then.

Yeah there's lots of great info here. I have a lot of reading to do.

Yep it really looks better than the gray covers. I was thinking about just spray painting the cover but not sure how well it will stick. Where did you get that massive pull cord handle?
