Modding a Dolmar 6000I

Hello all I have really enjoyed all of the info on this site.  Just picked up a dolmar 6000I Has any one done any porting or Muffler mods to this Model?

660mag was your 6000i I ran all stock no muffler mod. If so I wouldnt touch them saws. Strong as heck in the cut. But that is just me.  Only thing they needed was a diet plan.

Robust is good!  Those old Dolly's will be running long after many lesser saws are filling scrap metal heaps.

When you first ran the Dolmar 6000iH it was all stock as it came from the factory with a KS cylinder and piston. It had the original small mount K295 20" bar and Stihl RS chain. That's the way it was when I bought it at the Dolmar dealer. The 6000iH was a local guy's firewood saw and had very little use as you can see from the original bar.

It now has a new Mahle 6800 cylinder and a Meteor piston and rings. It runs just as good and that's the way it was when we ran it against your big Echo 6700.

With the 6000i you can not do much with the ports. When you get to measuring around in the cylinder and consider all the parameters like the skirt width, position of the ports and muffler bolts, all that's left you can do is to lower the cylinder and set the squish.

Make sure your muffler is in good shape as it is two piece and any leak out the bottom will burn a hole in your oil tank.

Essentially the only difference in a Dolmar 116Si and the 6000i is the way the brake mechanism is made.

The Dolmar 120Si and 6800i are the same chainsaw as above except for having a larger bore with a Mahle cylinder.

The transfers on these cylinders are the old style that the lower transfers come out the side of the cylinder and are fed through windows in the piston just like a Stihl 066/MS660.
