I put thin coat of 515/518  On base and case gaskets. Holds them in place and  prevents any leaks from a scratch or Nick in the case. BB kits seem to be hit or miss. Some run good some don't. I wasn't impressed with mine.

I put on a OEM 7900 setup and no problems what-so-ever

I also recommend the OEM 7900 kit.  I have both BBK's and OEM guess I lucked out my BBK runs real well.

FWIW I've only split the cases on one Dolmar /Makita and it was a piece of cake .Unlike Stihl those bearings on that model were not heat shrink fit ,easy as pie .

If it was an air leak, which it could be anything, usually that doesn't get the mains .

Al, when i first swapped  7900 cranks, I was shocked how loose the fit was compared to the stihl saws. Haven't seen one spin yet but now I know why they recommend loctite!!!

My guess is hours is what killed my saw . It was a craigslist purchase from a rental company . I paid  $250 for it . I used it for 2 winters almost daily for a couple months.

Probably in bad need of new seals, as well as a P/C. If the jug cleans up perhaps only a piston and new rings. Don't forget to check the carb boot for cracks/tears!

It could be anything of which you won't know untill you lift the cylinder .Could have ate something that didn't agree with it .It doesn't take much to hang one which is not always fatal .
