it will gain power with a muffler mod , just donot go crazy on making the opening huge like on a husky , what your doing is what I see alot of so calling modders are doing and that is tighten the squish up but donot report the ports , yes tightening up the squish will gain you torque but because you lowered the transfer and ext port you will make the torque at a lower rpm in the wood , Raise your ports back up and you will gain torque and raise your in the wood rpms , On a 5100 running a 16 inch bar and 3/8's chain with you pushing some you should hold at least a 12,000 rpms in the wood , 12,400 or 12,500 is what I shoot for on a woodsport job , These saws pull pretty good and are nice and light and easy to operate , When I do vidoes I donot let the saw sit there are scream , ya it might sound good but it ain't cutting **** so how do you know what the hell the motor has for power , I know myself I would far sooner see a 10 sec cut where the motor has to work compared to a 15 second scream that really shows nothing . Like I said before yes you raise the transfers but donot go wild on them or you will have a door  stop  ;D

Listen to Ed on the 5100. Had him port one for me when they came out. Used it hard for a winter cutting 16-24 inch hardwood. Was using a 7900 before. Never used the 7900 again.

as far as heat goes in the motor you can push the 5100/5105  pretty good before they give up , I know most hate this but always run lots of oil in your gas and from what I have been seeing for years is the crank bearing just last longer , On my stock or some what stock motors I run 40-1 and on my hotter ported motors I run 32-1 , I have a couple real hot motors and run 20-1 in them .

Dolmar to me is the most misunderstood motor out there and I'm not really sure why cause I find them 1 of the easiest to get good power out of , I can port a 7900 in less time than I think any other saw and some saws take double the time to do the engine work, The biggest mistake I have seen lots of times is guys try porting the 7900 using 372 porting numbers and that will not work at all , If you raise the transfers up to 372 porting numbers you better be running on alcohol cause it will not make enough power on gas to cut a broom handle , It will sound mean until you hit the wood , so you better just fire it up and talk about how fast it is and make sure you donot show anyone  ;D
