Why no 6400 threads?
« on: December 25, 2011, 06:23:24 pm »
Reckon why no one has started any threads on the FANTASTIC 6400 Dolmar?
I love mine badder than a hog loves slop!
They are reputed to be overweight and underpowered but I must respectfully disagree.
I have yet to find anything in the 65cc class that will run with it. It is really a shame in a way that so many people (me included at one time) buy them and turn them into 7900s before seeing how good they are in their own right.
I've kinda adopted a saying for the poor maligned 6400..."It's hard to live in the shadow of a legend, if you don't believe it just ask Hank Williams Jr. or Patrick Wayne!".
Here is mine with a 28" full comp in a red oak this last spring.

Have you ever ran a Husqvarna 365 sp? I feel they are one of the best 65cc saws. I have never run a 6400. (but i will someday) ;)

Mike I used to run them. But for ease of parts I went to the 365 special closed port instead of 6400 6401 open port.  I never tested back to back. But my 375K 372xp woods ported pop up out cut my 7901 woods ported finger ports domed piston. Both were great saws but the parts issues I was having in 2007-2008 or 09 was enough for me to get out of them.

Oh the 365sp 65cc can go to 76cc 74.66cc 70.7cc 65cc 62cc but like I said parts is why I went back to huskys.

Back when black tops came out for dolmar I switched the grey ones out.

The 6400 is a lot stronger than the Husky 365 and the J-red 2165.
I didn't know how it was gonna stack up against them at first because they have that "Husky-Jonsered sound" but we have had 5 different 365's and 3 different 2165s against my ABSOLUTE STOCK 6400 and none of them were even close. Two of the Jreds were bone stock just like my 6400, one had a muff mod.
One of the Huskys had the squish set and a muff mod and one of the others just had a muff mod the other three were stock also.

I did get beat by a "365" one time but there was no way it was what the owner said it was. That "365" beat some real nice 044s and 372s that day. I guess that stuff will happen. I had a 28" bar on mine too, but still came in second.

I still have a stock 6401 and a 665 Solo both new never in wood.  The no thread deal is cause we tend to want "more" and Baileys is still selling the OEM 7900 P&C kits for $169.  I agree they are the strongest 65 cc on the market and open port to boot.
