I put the new CS500p 18" B@C on my balance scale
just the saw, no chain cover as some weigh them that way   10# 5 oz
Saw with chain cover 10# 10oz
Saw with bar and chain 13# 2 oz
Saw full of fuel and oil 14# 7 oz

 I weighed my CS520 with a 16" B@C full ready to cut 14#  15 oz, . I think the CS520 hold a bit more fuel and oil.

Cutting.  My muff modd CS520 is WAY  faster than the new not broke in CS500, time will tell after getting broke in and opening up the muff.
It doesn't seem lean unless it's against the rev limiter, will have to pull the caps to make sure.  .    Steve

I pulled the caps and found it was tuned real good, a bit rich if anything.  Did timed cuts against my CS520.   Cs520  6 seconds    CS500p 9 to 10 seconds.  It's going to need to improve a lot with a muff modd and break in.

Thank you for all that info and time doing so.  Nice light 0-50cc saw. Thats good to see.  Seems lighter then the 5000 specs I seen. Never weighed it though.

Now the next time the owner ask me what saw in a echo line up would replace his pro grade type built  echo 5000.  I can say the new strato 500.  He is one that isnt to keen on the clamshell type saws.

I don't know much about the CS4500, I do have a CS5000 which I'll put on the same scale ready to cut, I think it's right around 15#. I think the only Echo that is a strato is the CS550 which is being discontinued , pretty sure the CS500p is not a strato. I really don't know why a good clamshell motor gets a bad rap, every Echo clamshell is real easy to work on, the motor can be laying on the bench in 10 minutes and the working on the P@C, bearings, seals is really easy and fast.  The only downside is you can't mill the bottom of the cylinder off to increase the compression unless you would line bore the bearings seats.  If you watched that vid of the CS520 Mastermind did it did fine without milling the cylinder base..  I've heard good reports about the CS500p but the one I got is a dog so far, I'd bet I'll be doing that muff modd before it get 2 tanks through it.  Steve

I dont mind clamshells as long as they are easy to work on like the poulans and huskys I been in. I cant stand the stihl series of clamshells just because how they built them. Only echo clam I have been partilly in was a 3900.  So I'm not sure how they are to work on yet.

I think mweba pics shows strato on the 500P or maybe I was just seeing removal transfer covers and mistaken it. My mind is starting to cornfuse all the echo info going between my ears right now. Overloading.  ;D Heck maybe it was a 550 I reading about being strato.  :P

Not a strato as it would have a small tube above the carb intake.  Removable transfer covers making porting the tranfers easy. Tranfers look small compared to the CS520 but the CS400 has small tranfers but really cuts good.   Steve

I'm trying to figure this base out.   Wondering what the crankcase base area looks like.
