ECHO CS-440
« on: June 02, 2018, 07:08:28 pm »
Hello All,
I recently acquired a exceptionally clean CS440,and I'm impressed with it's  performance. having sold my MS290 and MS180 a while back, then purchasing a new MS261,I now wonder if I'd made that purchase had this (free) ECHO happened along earlier......Anyway,it appears to be old-possibly mid-late 90's(?),but hardly used. I read the excellent, extensive ECHO history article by Cut4Fun,and now would like to know more about this specific model..... The OEM Oregon chain cuts well, but stretches with each use.....so I'll replace it with something better.

I know some guys that know echo info. I dont but here is a little I found on quick search.

Seems to be 2 different 440's   early and later grey and then orange.  Horizontal and vertical cylinders.   Being you used CS I am guessing you have the later one.

If you want to increase cutting speed by quite a bit put a 3/8 lp 6 tooth ( 7 tooth cuts real close the .325 7 tooth) sprocket and bar and chain off a CS400.  You will have to machine the gear end of the sprocket  just a little to make it fit.  Steve

Mine is a gray case model(early or late version,I don't know....). I was hoping to be able to install a Stihl chain,as they've always given me good service in regards to minimal stretching....
