Chainsaw Repair

Hey Y'all-

I wanted to ask if anyone can give any comments about the different muffler part numbers that are listed on the echo IPL's. All have the 59 cc engine.
Here's a chart I made:

Also, I noticed the part numbers for the outer deflectors is not the same for these models.

Has the mounting or cylinder shape changed between these saws? Or are some part# better flowing, or catalytic converter types? Thanks again.

Hey- Thanks again, I really like this saw, I got to use one of the early plastic handle 600's and was really impressed. I think it was almost as strong as my grey 670. Now they have an improved version of that one, the 680. Frustrating when you buy a saw and then an improved version shows up a little bit afterwards.

On the 680. First there was the 6700 ( I have one) then the 670 then 680. Thats what happens over the many years of being in service.  Updates are a good thing most times.

i can only speak first hand on the cs-590 (early).

from what i see on my saw, it came equipped with an inner deflector.  maybe have a pic of this somewhere.

on the cs-590 there are two different IPL's:
early-Serial Number: C25812001001 to C25812999999
late  -Serial Number: C25913001001 to C25913999999

on the early IPL: the inner exhaust guide part #A313000020 is no longer available.  the outer exhast guide alternative part # that is currently available is part #A313000120.

my saw is loud enough already, with the inner guide in place.  don't feel the need to take it off, to make even more noise.

maybe checking muffler gasket part #'s you can find if the different mufflers interchange between models 590, 600, 620???

have not been inside my muffler, but word on the street is that it has some kind of tube gizmo within.

Hey-  Great information, thank you! The video is very helpful. I had another thought about the part numbers. I know sometimes companies will update part #'s for reasons other than that the part is actually different or changed. Sometimes it's for their internal purposes. Maybe this is the case here. Anyway it is interesting to see the evolution of this model.

It's strange that a baffle (arranged vertically) with many holes can actually not restrict flow that much but is very effective at reducing sound levels. I have a trimmer with this type of baffle and on this older model the muffler is able to be completely dissassembled for cleaning etc... I left the baffle out as an experiment and the only change in performance was the sound level was somewhat louder. I put the baffle back in since for trimming it's nicer to have less noise.

I think the biggest factor is the surface area of the outlet in relation to the overall design.
